Three held with stolen phones

THREE men were arrested yesterday by officers attached to the St Joseph CID. They are to appear before a Tunapuna magistrate on Monday charged with robbery of a St Augustine store of $20,000 in phones, Sim cards and cash. According to reports, the three men entered People Gears and Accessory Store (PGA) on the  Eastern Main Road in St Augustine at around 5 pm on Wednesday. The trio pretended to be customers and, after looking around, pulled out two cutlasses and a gun and announced a hold-up. The men robbed supervisor Malika Critchlow of $6,000, a quantity of Sim cards and cellular phones valued at $20,000, before escaping in a waiting car.

Acting on information, a team of officers led by ag Insp Michael Modeste, and which included Sgt Michael Daniel, ag Cpl Selwyn Hobbs, PCs Nirmal Ramjattan, Shawn Penjilia and Kerwin Kingston, went to a basketball court near Goose Lane, Aranjuez on Thursday. The lawmen searched and arrested two San Juan men ages 21 and 24 with a quantity of money, Sim cards and phones, which were identified as stolen from PGA. Later, the same team of officers went to another house in El Socorro where they held a 22-year-old security guard of St Augustine with a quantity of cash, cards and phones. The men are to appear before a Tunapuna magistrate on Monday. Constable Avion Yearwood laid the charge.
