Pranz Gardens in Claxton Bay gets pipe-borne water
DOZENS of families in Pranz Gardens, Claxton Bay now have a reliable potable water supply thanks to the Community Development Ministry and the National Commission for Self Help (NCSH). On Saturday, residents who provided labour in the project, were praised for their proactiveness by Community, Culture and Gender Affairs Minister, Senator Joan Yuille-Williams, who also praised the efforts of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
Minister Yuille-Williams was present on Saturday to commission the project which took 18 days to complete and benefits over 71 households at a cost of $29,000. Approximately 1,089 metres of 110 millimetre pipelines were used in the process. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony Yuille-Williams commended the proactive attitude of the Pranz Gardens residents saying, “if members of every community were as efficient as you all, the quality of life in the country would improve.” She added the principle of the Self Help Commission was to aid social consciousness to achieve the Government’s 2020 vision of Developed Country status and not just limit its scope to physical amenities but health, lifelong learning and other issues.
She reminded that any requests residents had towards improving the standard of life in their community, her ministry and the Self Help Commission were always willing to help.
Yuille-Williams also commented that soon there would be several other projects aimed at upgrading living standards in communities including the Community Enhancement and Regeneration programme. She said within the last three years there were 841 self help projects which benefited 300,000 citizens at a cost of $19 million. Also present at the commissioning ceremony were Councillor Shafimoon Taj, Curtis Cazeau Project Coordinator for WASA (South) and Krishna Ramkumar — Chairman of the NCHS.
