Man shot dead outside home
A 31-year-old father of two became the country’s 100th murder victim for the year when he was shot dead outside his Rivertrack Road home in Dibe, Long Circular, at around 11.15 pm on Thursday night. Reports revealed that Neil La Borde, alias “Sheikh,” was at his home with his common-law wife Rondine Skeete, when they heard dogs barking outside the house. La Borde went outside to enquire when he was shot dead. His wife told police investigators that she heard a gunshot outside her house and, on checking, saw the almost lifeless body of her husband. She called a relative who took the bleeding La Borde to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A party of officers led by Snr Supt Gonzales and Sgt Monilal went to the scene and carried out enquiries. They were soon joined by officers of the Crime Scene Unit. Police investigators said yesterday the killing was drug-related. Relatives of the dead man told Newsday that La Borde was constantly being threatened by persons who accused him of stealing their marijuana. They claimed that La Borde had mended his ways. Neighbours of the dead man told Newsday that La Borde was marked for death. They claimed that after his release from prison, La Borde sold a quantity of marijuana for a drug pusher and did not deliver the cash. Police records revealed that La Borde was released from prison eight months ago and had matters pending for rape and firearm related offences.
