Hit-and-run car kills man in San Juan
AN unidentified man was killed while crossing from north to south along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Solo Beverages, San Juan. Reports revealed that around 8.15 pm, a Mercedes panel van was proceeding west along the CR Highway in the vicinity of Solo Beverages, when an East Indian man in his late 40’s attempted to cross from north to south. He was struck by the driver of the panel van which did not stop.
The victim, who was dressed in dark clothing with security type boots, remained unidentified up until late yesterday. District Medical Officer Dr Bouchey visited the scene and ordered the removal of the body to the Port-of-Spain mortuary. The death of the unidentified man is the 84th road fatality for the year so far. Cpl Bassant of the Barataria Police visited the scene of the accident, and inquiries yesterday led to the vehicle being traced to the owner of the killer vehicle.
The owner gave a statement to the police that he was not driving the vehicle at the time of the fatal accident. Further inquiries led officers to St Augustine where they questioned and detained a man who was assisting in the investigations yesterday. Police officers are calling on members of the public to assist them in identifying the body of the man. Investigations are continuing by the Barataria Police.
