‘Kidnap’ victim returns home crying

Ashti Sookhan, the schoolgirl who was allegedly kidnapped in Sangre Grande Wednesday morning, emerged from some bushes at the back of her house late the same night. She was crying and behaving in a hysterical manner. According to police reports at around 11:30 pm while a team of Police Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headed by Insp Edmund Thomas and including Sgt Roy Fermin, and PCs Ken Lutchman, Ken Rampersad, Allan Khan and Neil Narine were conducting inquires at the home of the Sookhans on St Louis Road, Guaico, they were attracted by screaming sounds at the back of the house. Upon investigation, the police found the girl crying. Ashti 13, a Form II student, of Lakshmi Girls College, St Augustine was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where she was medically examined by doctors and discharged. Police then took her to areas where they felt she could have been.  However, she was unable to remember or identify any location.
