DPP to decide teen’s fate
Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson will be consulted today by Central Division homicide officers on how to proceed with an investigation into the death of a Felicity father of ten. A 15-year-old boy who was held in connection with the murder remains in police custody. A stone which police believe was used to kill Rajdeo Ramlochan, 44, was seized from the murder scene as well as a piece of iron. Ramlochan was killed early Saturday morning after a heated dispute with a teenager close to his Union Village, Felicity home.
Relatives of the murder suspect insisted yesterday that the killing was not deliberate and that the teen acted in self-defence. They claimed that their relative was being chased by the murder victim with a piece of iron shortly before the death. They said the suspect retaliated and threw a stone at his attacker. Ramlochan then slumped to the ground and died. A party of officers led by acting Sgt Ajith Persad, Cpl Salick and PCs Sheppard and Alexander went to the scene along with District Medical Officer Dr Vishnu Geelal. An autopsy will be carried out today at the Forensic Science Centre to determine the cause of death. A statement has already been recorded from an eyewitness to the murder. In an unrelated matter, another autopsy will also be carried out today on the body of David Stewart, 21, who was shot dead on Friday night at McBean Village in Couva. Police have linked that death to a drug deal gone sour.
