New ticketing rules by airlines
CARIBBEAN AIRLINES have adjusted their booking systems to restrict cancellation of tickets to the date of issue, in an attempt to minimise the number of empty seats on their aircraft. The new policy, which comes into effect today, means travel agencies and their agents will no longer be able to cancel an airline ticket after the date of issue, but may refund a ticket subject to purchasing conditions.
A release from the Airlines Association of Trinidad and Tobago explained that once a ticket has been issued all fare rules, including refund penalties are applicable. This measure has been put in place to minimise the number of empty sets on the aircraft and to ensure that as many people as possible can be accommodated on the flights of their choice. The traveling public is asked to be aware of these new conditions governing the purchase of tickets and to ensure they purchase tickets with fare types most suited to their needs, since most tickets carry cancellation penalties, some of which are 100 percent of the cost of the ticket.
