PM extends Ramadan greetings to Muslim community

The Holy Month of Ramadan culminates with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, a national holiday.

In a media release, the Prime Minister said: “Assalamu Al aikum on behalf of the people and Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and on my own behalf...Ramadan is a month dedicated to fasting from dusk to dawn and the obligation of daily prayers, Tarawee Salaat, each night in the various Mosques. It represents sacrifice, and challenging ourselves to deepen our spiritual appreciation for life and service to our brothers and sisters and members of the wider communities.”

Persad-Bissessar noted that the aim of this month-long activity “is to increase our iman, taqwa, and self-control and also to be kind and considerate to the less fortunate in our society. It is a submission to Almighty Allah.”

“It brings the opportunity for us to voluntarily surrender what is rightfully ours, and share with our community through charity. Ramadan shines a light on the blessings of life, which we so often take for granted. It is about our mental and spiritual purification,” she added.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of the Muslim Community to society and expressed appreciation towards them.

“Such appreciation has allowed us to be seen as a model of peaceful diversity in the world through mutual respect, tolerance and acceptance of the spirit of family togetherness by putting Almighty God in front and walking behind. Ramadan Mubarak and may Almighty Allah shower his choicest blessings on the members of our Muslim community and the entire population of Trinidad and Tobago.”
