One-stop tax service from BIR

The Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) has established a “one-stop” service in which members of the public can get Value Added Tax (VAT) and Tax Clearance Certificates at the same location. A release from the Inland Revenue Division states the service will start on Wednesday. Members of the public can access the service at the VAT Assistance Section on the ground floor of the VAT Administration Centre on St Vincent Street, Port-of-Spain, or at any of the division’s regional offices located at 6 Prince Street, Arima; TECU Building, Marabella and Sangster’s Hill, Tobago. “This facility eliminates the inconvenience experienced by taxpayers by having to visit two different buildings to acquire the certificates as previously obtained. VAT and Income Tax Clearance certificates are usually required for tendering purposes,” the release said.
