Baksh: Piarco key to UNC’s dreams
FORMER Works and Transport Minister Sadiq Baksh claimed the UNC built the new Piarco Airport terminal to fulfil several of its long-term objectives for Trinidad and Tobago. Speaking at a UNC public meeting in St Augustine Monday, Baksh said the UNC built the new Piarco terminal “to assume our rightful place in the Caribbean as a regional leader, headquarters of the ACS and the possible future home of the FTAA.” He also indicated that construction of the new Piarco terminal was linked to the development of a science and industrial park at Wallerfield.
The former minister claimed the PNM had “no moral authority” to say anything about Piarco since it never made any improvements to the airport and cannot manage the facility. He said it was key to several of the former regime’s objectives for TT. Baksh is one of several persons currently before the court facing charges of corruption relating to the Piarco Airport development project.
