Under my command this situation will no longer exist
A confident Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti-Crime/Operations) Oswyn Allard has confirmed that the executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is concerned about the attempts on police officers’ lives who are involved in various inquiries, and has vowed to stop it. “The executive met many times, took a critical look at the situation and discussed it. “Already several senior officers responsible for various divisions have been given programmes to deal with it which would be put into action soon. “One thing is for sure under my command this situation will no longer exist.”
Allard’s response follows the recent shooting of the first street, Five Rivers home of North-Eastern Division Task Force Officer Dale Makoosingh. Makoosingh, 26, was one of four officers involved in the fatal shooting of Morvant woman, Galene Bonadie earlier this year. An inquiry has since been ordered where Makoosingh and three others are witnesses. Shortly after the shooting, regular patrols were ordered to visit the homes of the officers. Relatives of Makoosingh told Newsday that while the Arouca Police Station is reporting they have been patrolling, the truth is very few patrols ever come. The officer’s wife has made an appeal for better protection for her husband, child and herself. Since the fatal shooting there have been three threats on Makoosingh’s life.
