Man found dead at home by son

POLICE have ruled out foul play in the death of a 43-year-old civil engineer attached to the Works and Transport Ministry, who was found dead by his son outside his New Grant home in Tableland early yesterday morning. According to police reports, the body of Fazal Ahamood was found lying at the bottom of a flight of stairs by his son Fiaz at his Hindustan Road, New Grant, Tableland home. Fiaz told police he had just returned home from a family outing when, on checking for his dad, he (Fiaz) found him missing.

When Fiaz searched the house for his father, he found the dead man lying at the foot of a flight of stairs. Fiaz took his father to the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH), where the District Medical Officer confirmed the engineer was dead and ordered the body removed to the mortuary. Although the result of an autopsy on Ahamood’s body was not known up to late yesterday, police said they had no reason to believe foul play was involved and they suspect he may have fallen down the stairs, breaking his neck. Investigations are continuing.
