Delaford man shot by police

A MAN was shot by police Monday afternoon after he reportedly ran amok at the King’s Bay Beach Bar facilities at Delaford. The man, identified as Kurt Johnson, 30, of Delaford, who is said to be suffering from a mental problem, threw missiles at the beach facilities, smashing bottles of liquor and other items.

The Roxborough police were summoned, but by the time they arrived Johnson had already fled the scene and was in the vicinity of a bar along the Windward Main Road, half-mile away. Reports indicate that when he was confronted by police he threw missiles, smashing the windscreen of the police vehicle. Eyewitnesses claim after he stopped, he was shot by an officer who fired three bullets from his service revolver. A police report said Johnson was shot after he refused to drop the missiles, despite having been ordered to do so on three occasions. Johnson was shot in the shoulder and leg and is in stable condition at the Scarborough hospital. Investigations are continuing.
