Mom of 3 killed by female driver
A WILLIAMSVILLE mother of three is the nation’s latest road fatality. She died at hospital on Tuesday night, hours after being knocked down by a car driven by a fellow female villager. Police said Sunita Camille Bobb, 32, succumbed to injuries suffered after being hit from behind while walking along Poona Road in Williamsville, a mere quarter-mile from her home. The impact, officers said, threw Bobb ten feet into the air before she landed on the windscreen of the car, and then rolled on to the road.
Bobb arrived at San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) in a coma and died seven hours later without regaining consciousness. According to police reports, the female driver, a 32-year-old housewife, apparently did not see Bobb walking along the road at around 7.15 pm. Bobb was on her way home after completing work at Seereeram Brothers Construction. The shaken driver told police it was only after her car actually struck Bobb that she became aware that a collision had taken place. Police allowed the woman to go home since she was in a state of shock. They intend to visit her today to take a formal statement.
Sombre relatives of the deceased told Newsday the driver lived a mere 100 feet from the scene of the accident. Bobb’s relatives claimed eyewitnesses told them only one headlight was functioning on the driver’s Nissan Bluebird car. Bobb’s grieving husband John said the female driver visited him yesterday, begging for forgiveness. “She (the driver) told me she really can’t do anything to bring my wife back and she understood the pain I am going through. But if she were taking her time, my wife would have been alive today. The least she could have done was take her time when she was driving,” John, 29, stated as he struggled to keep his composure. With tears running down his face, John added, “I might be able to forgive her, but that will take a very long time.”
John vowed to take care of their children — Criston, nine; Jonathan, five and Jessica, two. “I could take care of myself, but they have to grow up now without a mother,” he sobbed. John said he was married to Sunita for the past three years, after a seven-year courtship. “She was my first love,” John cried. The deceased would have celebrated her 29th birthday tomorrow, and her husband said he was planning to take the family on a trip to Gulf City before having a special dinner at home. Instead, he will now have to plan his wife’s funeral. An autopsy yesterday by Dr Persad at San Fernando Mortuary revealed Bobb died of cranio-cerebral injuries consistent with an accident. Acting Cpl Jaikaran is investigating.
