Woman who cried rape fined $1,000

A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was on Monday fined $1,000 by a San Fernando magistrate when she pleaded guilty to making a false report of rape, which led to the wasteful employment of police time. Shenarie Bachan of Tarouba pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan. Two Wednesdays ago, the court heard, Bachan went to Mon Repos Police Station and reported that around 10.30 pm that night, she was liming with three men near the San Fernando Technical Institute, when the men attacked and raped her. PC Gary Santlal began investigations but soon discovered the woman’s report was false and charged her. After receiving a stern admonition by Rambachan, the woman was fined $1,000 or in default serve three months imprisonment with hard labour.
