Doctor testifies in weed charge against him
A DOCTOR on a marijuana trafficking charge yesterday completed his testimony at the Port-of-Spain Sixth Criminal Court, signalling the close of the defence’s case. Dr Brian Connel, 34, of Jankey Trace, Trincity, was cross-examined by State attorney Alexander Prince. Connel and two other men, Ken Mattias, 32, of La Solita Road, Kelly Village, Caroni, and taxi driver Ruy Henville, 45, of Mason Hall in Tobago, are before Madame Justice Joan Charles charged with possession of 29 kilos of compressed marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The men were allegedly caught loading the illegal narcotics into the trunk of a car along the North Coast Road near Maracas on February 2, 2001. The three are being represented by attorneys Keith Scotland, Michelle Solomon and Yaseen Ahmed. The attorneys gave their closing address to the jury yesterday, and Charles is expected to do a summation of the case today.
