Road to be named Siebaran Drive
A HIGH ranking official from Caroni (1975) Ltd has instructed the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) to remove its sign, “Mowassie Drive,” from a road owned by Caroni (1975) Ltd, in Esperance Village, San Fernando, and replace it with “Siebaran Drive.” The order came from Caroni’s acting CEO Deosaran Jagroo, addressed to the CEO of PDRC, Lauman Espinoza. In an interview yesterday, Espinoza conceded the corporation acted wrongly on Wednesday when it renamed the street “Mowassie Drive” by placing a signpost and removing the “Siebaran Drive” sign.
Under the watchful eyes of armed police, PDRC workmen placed the “Mowassie Drive” sign on Wednesday in support of villager Kissoon Lookoor, who claimed the street led to lands once owned by generations of the Mowassie family. The street now leads to a six-year-old residential development where about 15 families live and who have formed themselves into the Siebaran Drive Action Group, which has been lobbying to have the street named “Siebaran Drive.”
