BA aircraft grounded at Crown Point
A British Airways Boeing 777 aircraft on its way to Antigua was grounded at Crown Point International Airport Thursday night, after two emergency checks were carried out. According to a Fire Services official, they received an emergency call from traffic control around 7.25 pm and responded immediately. The spokesman said a fire indicator light came on inside the aircraft as it attempted to take off, but after a check, no smoke or excessive heat was discovered.
The pilot then attempted a second take-off, but the light again showed up on the aircraft console, and a second emergency check by fire officials was carried out. Again nothing was found, but a decision was taken to ground the aircraft. Divisional Fire Officer Carl Williams said after fire officers completed the second emergency check, ground engineers continued to investigate the situation. Passengers aboard the aircraft were housed at two Tobago hotels. Up to late yesterday, the disabled aircraft was still at Crown Point.
