House firebombed, sisters douse flames

QUICK action by two sisters averted a tragedy after their home was firebombed while they were asleep during the early morning hours Thursday. A close relative is now said to be assisting police in their investigation. Police said Lynora Boodram, who is separated from her husband, was staying at her sister’s home at Mapepire Road in Williamsville, when she heard a noise downstairs the house around 3 am.

On checking, she found a mattress and pieces of clothing on fire. The sisters formed a bucket brigade and were able to extinguish the flames before it spread to the rest of the house. A party of officers of the Gasparillo Police Station, including Sgt Anthony Charles and WPC Mohan, visited the scene and found a bottle with gas and a wick. Estimated cost of damages was still to be ascertained. Sgt Charles is investigating.
