Trincity blossoms into the jewel of the East

It is indeed heartening to record that, notwithstanding many serious challenges, the perseverance of the “pioneers” (including the initial residents) must be applauded, for today, this area of former sugar-cane lands, resting between Tunapuna and Arouca, and within easy access to Piarco International Airport, has blossomed into what I would call “the jewel of the East” — a development of prime attraction — which can boast of being not only an amalgam of housing areas which is designed to meet the demands of residents of varying income levels but also an internationally-recognised golf course and a hotel.

The Trincity Mall itself is now reputed to be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean and, of late, the area has been the recipient of attractions in the form of the state-of-the-art Massy Stores SuperCentre, coupled with a convenient gasCNG filling station.

There is no shortage of sporting fields and playgrounds and Trincity is fortunate to be within relatively easy access of many churches and schools in its immediate environs. In this regard, thanks must be accorded to the Anglican Communion for facilitating two secondary schools in the form of Trinity College East and Bishop Anstey Girls’ High School East.

At the level of political representation, I venture to suggest that better could be done as the MPs elected have not really been visible, since their election. However, given the inadequate resources at its disposal, the TunapunaPiarco Regional Corporation seems to be doing its best. Its location enables Trincity to be served by some four water sources between the Eastern Main Road and the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway.

Unfortunately, this country has had a history of allowing our heritage structures and developments to fall into decadence to a point where even restoration may be beyond reach. The authorities concerned, and the residents in particular, must be vigilant and avoid such an occurrence in the Trincity area, the surroundings and outer areas of which are not without “monuments” which would be of interest to future generations.

An area of concern to which I must direct for immediate attention by its management is the need to have the roads and parking areas within the mall paved and to have adequate washroom and toilet facilities provided especially in the “older” part of the mall, bearing in mind the increasing number of shoppers who have been visiting.
