Police and pavers stop traffic
DRIVERS heading to and coming from south Trinidad on Friday evening had “steam” coming out their heads for several hours as workmen of Coosals Construction Company Limited paved the north-bound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, in the vicinity of the Caroni Swamp, while officers of the Chaguanas Police conducted road block exercise on the opposite side.
Both exercises started early in the day and ended after 7 pm causing miles of traffic backing up as far at the Chaguanas flyover in the South and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway intersection in the North. Drivers along the Churchill Roosevelt highway, the Eastern Main Road and the Priority Bus Route heading east or going west had similar problems as police had several road blocks starting outside Sea lots in the vicinity of Bhagwansingh Hardware reaching as far as Arima. Several arrests were made of persons with drugs, wanted for house-breaking and on outstanding warrants.
