Bandits held in overturned stolen car
RAND ALPHONSO may have been dejected while travelling in a taxi on Saturday night to report that his car had just been stolen. While on the way to the station he saw his car crashed in a ditch with the thieves still in the vehicle. Alphonso hurriedly returned to the scene with Santa Flora police officers, who detained the injured bandits. The drama unfolded nearly midnight Saturday when Alphonso, of Los Charros Village, Erin, was driving along SS Erin Road and stopped at a parlour. He reported that two men, whom he knew, walked up to him and demanded he hand over the keys to his vehicle.
As Alphonso refused, the men snatched the keys from his hands, threw him out of the car and sped off. Alphonso told police he waited some ten minutes before he saw a taxi passing. He hired the taxi to take him to the Santa Flora Police Station. A short distance away he observed his vehicle overturned in a ditch, and proceeded to the police station to inform the lawmen. The suspects were detained by police and taken to the San Fernando Hospital where they were treated for chest injuries. Police said charges of motor car larceny are expected to be laid. Cpl Birjah is continuing investigations.
