2 South teens commit suicide

TWO south families, one in Tableland and the other in Egypt Village, Point Fortin, are now in shock and mourning after two teenagers, both aged 17, committed suicide in unrelated incidents over the weekend. In the first incident, relatives of Robin Siewsankar are still wondering what could have driven him to take his own life. According to police reports, Hannith Ramkisson was at his Glot Road home in Tableland around 2.30 pm on Sunday, when he saw his stepson Siewsankar vomiting in the yard. Ramkissoon later told police he observed the strong acrid smell of a weedicide coming from Siewsankar’s room. The semi-conscious youth was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors. The body was removed to the nearby mortuary.

Police visited the scene and seized a bottle, which contained the deadly weedicide, Lanate. Sgt Ramkhelawan, Cpl Jagroo and PC Ramdeen of the Tableland Police visited the scene and are continuing investigations. In the other incident, police said Kurn Simon, a pupil of Siparia Senior Comprehensive School, was found frothing at the mouth near his Dam Road, Egypt Village, Point Fortin home around 8 pm on Sunday. He was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His bereaved relatives told police they knew of no reason why Simon would want to take his own life. Point Fortin police visited the scene and are continuing investigations. Autopsies were scheduled for both bodies yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, St James, but up to news-time there was no information on the results.
