Samuel to defend National Road Time Trial title

Samuel, who also hoisted the National Road Race crown at last year’s edition, will have his work cut out this year however, with the likes of Team DPS’ Gavyn Nero and youngster Akil Campbell (Rigtech Sonics) all in the hunt for precious metal.

Today’s course has brought with it new challenges inclusive of tricky rolling hills, crosswinds and the unfamiliarity of most cyclists to the course. Competition begins at the new extension of the Solomon Hochoy Highway between Oropouche and Mon Desir.

Tomorrow however, Samuel will then shift his attention towards defence of his Road Race trophy. All age groups will tackle the Tortuga Circuit with a hill top finish at Pepper Hill in Gran Couva. The route for this event is 20km.

Finally, on August 23, the Naitonal Criterium will be held for the first time at the Brian Lara Stadium Car Park. The venue, which hosted two Criterium League events earlier in the year, features its own obstacles and difficulties which can set up the race for anyone to be crowned champion. Nero is the current title holder in this category. With names also such as James Hadeed (Heatwave), Guy Costa (Heatwave), Jovian Gomez (PSL ) to name a few as well within the title hunt, the race is wide open for anyone’s taking.

Already over 120 cyclists have registered to compete at the National Road Championships with returning citizens from Canada and the USA having arrived on home soil as final preparations are implemented.
