WITH MORE than 50 photo shoots completed and 16,000 images captured, Christopher Nunes has emerged as the new face of the 2006 Oasis Male Calendar produced by Ourglass Promotions.

Not only is Nunes the flag bearer for the new issue which was launched on August 6 at the Courtyard Marriott, he is also Mr December — a major step for this 26 year-old art teacher attached to the San Juan Boys RC School.

Prior to the calendar, Nunes’ only media appearance was in a television advertisement for Carib several years ago.

"Before the launch of the calendar, I showed test shots to close friends who didn’t recognise me," said Nunes. "I can’t help but wonder if the same would happen when other people see the calendar."

Nunes said friends and family are excited by his calendar success, "They’re overwhelmed."

As daring and extroverted as he appears in some of the photographs for the calendar, Nunes is a quiet person to the extent that some people think he is anti-social.

"People meeting me for the first time, usually have a problem with me because of my silence. My quiet personality seems to offend them. At places I’ve worked, people find me ridiculously quiet on the first day. However, by the end of the week, they ask if I’m the same person."

The first of seven children born to Veronica and Stephen Nunes, he describes himself as humble, and quite a passion for art.

"Art excites me. I’ve always been told I’m good with my hands. My grandfather was a jack of all trades and I learnt that from him. I love art! Both painting and drawing. I’m studying it at Teachers Training College, following which I will move on to the University of the West Indies to pursue my degree."

An avid Poison masquerader for the past five years, Nunes enjoys swimming, cycling, cars and working out at the gym. He’s spends less time clubbing nowadays, preferring going to the movies. Other than that, he’s a regular at the beach and enjoys spending quality time with his five-year-old niece Kamilia, who he simply adores.

Nunes is single and is still is waiting on his Miss Right to come along."She has to be open minded," be said.

Being selected as the leading man for the Oasis Male Calendar.

"The cover isn’t promised to any model. Every shoot is done as a prospective lead. Who ultimately takes that lead is determined solely by Colin Gumbs."

Gumbs is director of photography for the Ourglass Promotions Oasis Male Calendar.

Nunes said, "I like my December shot. It’s rugged. I’m holding a welding torch. I’m bareback, sweaty, wearing a pair of torn jeans and construction boots.

"For the cover the concept is different. I’m sporting a cowboy hat. It is set western style. It reminds me of the Marlboro man commercial."

Nunes got involved in the calendar project through his acquaintance with male model Denis Ali and was introduced to Gumbs.

"We did a shoot, following which I heard nothing. I called Gumbs to enquire how the photos looked. He said he would bring them for me. Little did I know that meant I had failed. He told me other shoots could be done. I made contact with him afterwards, but the opportunity never materialised."

In an effort to enhance his physical appearance, Nunes joined a gym and began working out regularly. In June 2004 Gumbs invited Nunes to be photographed for the 2006 calendar and a partnership was formed.

Now Nunes is in the spotlight and clearly he’s loving it.
