Father sues hospital over son’s death

Robert Gill, in his lawsuit, claimed that hospital authorities at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) mis-diagnosed his son, Ronald Peter Gill, 18, when he was admitted to the institution on May 28, 2007.

The younger Gill was admitted complaining of abdominal pains and he died on June 4, 2007, of an inflamed appendix. He said doctors diagnosed his son as having muscular strain and kept him under observation, gave him an injection and advised him to get bed rest and take pain killers.

Gill said doctors refused to have an x-ray done on his son.

Ronald died at about 2.10 pm - four hours into surgery.

In the lawsuit, his father has asked the court to find the hospital negligent for failing to have an x-ray performed on his son so that a proper diagnosis could be made.

He is also seeking damages.
