Rule or no rule for pan?

However, being the “stickler for detail” that I am, I could not help but notice a breach in rule number six as set by Pan Trinbago and available on the internet, by ten out of the 12 bands that participated.

The rule clearly states “Bands must play tunes selected from the 21st century world beat repertoire.” Only two bands, Our Boys and Pamberi, played selections from the 21st century. All of the other selections were from the 20th century.

Ironically, the winning band, TCL Skiffle Bunch, played the oldest tune “Georgia on my Mind” composed by Hogey Carmichael in 1930.

Had the tune been released 31 years earlier, it would have qualified for Pan in the 19th century.

Mind you, this is not to demeanour the fantastic performance and well deserved victory of the band, but “rules are rules” or is it a case of “rules are made to be broken”?

The point I am simply making is why implement a rule if you don’t intend to use it?

Come on Pan Trinbago, discrepancies like this make us look as “third world” as people say we are, and all because of a simple oversight. Or is it that I am simply interpreting the rule the wrong way?
